Southeast China-Anhui

Anhui, with a population of over 59 million, is an inland province in Southeast China. It  stretches over the Yangtze River and Huai River, and is adjacent to six provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Henan and Shandong. Hefei City, the capital of Anhui Province, has many attractions as a result of its 2,000 years of history. Covering an area of 130,000 square kilometers (50,200 square miles), it boasts of abundant tourism resources, and is a top tourist attraction among many in the Southeast, such as: the amazing  Mount Huangshan, famous for its towering pines, precipitous stones, wonderland cloud-sea and hot springs; Mount Jiuhua, one of the four famous Buddhist Mountains in China;Mount Tianzhu, also a well-known scenic spot. The magnificence of these peaks is simply stupendous. Standing on top of any one of these peaks would overwhelm most trekkers with a sight to behold.

In addition to the beautiful mountain scenery, the well-preserved ancient villages in the southern part are derived from the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368 – 1911). The most impressive ones are in Xidi and Hongcun Ancient Villages in Yixian County near Mount Huangshan. It is really a sight worth seeing and a must for visitors who are keen to learn more about life during those years. Shexian County, reputed as Town of Arches, is also a must for each visitor who wants to experience fine examples of residential architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the unique Tangyue Memorial Archway.

It is a major producer of rice, mandarin orange, tea and freshwater fish. The province is also famous for its local traditional products: china made in Jingdezhen, porcelain pictures made in Nanchang, Qianshan bamboo handcraft, tealeaves from Lushan Mountain, and bamboo shoots in Jinggang Mountain, etc.

Jiangxi Province has many beautiful mountains, rivers and historical relics. Lushan Mountain,Sanqing Mountain, and Longhu Mountain are among the most famous mountains in China. It is a province with glorious revolutionary history; its places of historic interest include Jinggang Mountain, Ruijin, Nanchang and Anyuan. Lushan Mountain, famous for its elegance, steepness and oddness, with its main peak at 1,474 meters above sea level on the lakeshore, is a famous tourist spot. The Bailu Academy was one of the Four Great Academies of Classical Learning in the past. The highlight of Jiangxi travel should be Jingdezhen, which is known as the ‘Capital of Porcelain’ in China. East China-Zhejiang

Zhejiang Province is situated on China's southeastern coast, on the southern part of the Yangtze River Delta. Its northeast is adjacent to Shanghai. It covers a total land area of 101,800 sq km, of which the mountainous and hilly regions amount to 70.4%, the plains and basins make up 23.2%,and the rest 6.4% is rivers and lakes. The province’s coastline stretches 6,486 km. Zhejiang also has the largest number of islands in China. 3,061 islands each have a land area of 500 square meters or larger. Zhejiang is one of the birthplaces of the Chinese civilization. As early as in the Old Stone Age about 50,000 years ago, the primitive Jiande Man lived in the mountainous western region of the province. During the New Stone Age of about 7,000 to 4,000 years ago, human activities extended to a wider area, leaving more than 100 cultural sites in the area, including those belonging to the Hemudu Culture (about 6,000 to 7,000 years ago), the Majiabang Culture (about 6,000 to 6,000 years ago) and the Liangzhu Culture (about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago). Among the large amount of cultural relics found in the Yuyao Hemudu Cultural Site, are all types of farming and daily life utensils made of bones, stone, pottery and wood; grains; wooden parts of house-structures; colorful lacquer bowls and bone whistles that can still produce beautiful music now.During the 12th and 13th century, Hangzhou served as the Southern Song Dynasty’s capital for about 150 years. In the 14th century, along with the designation of its border, “Zhejiang” became the formal name of the province. In China’s history, Zhejiang was famous for its developed farming skills and handicrafts. It led the country in industries such as silk, porcelain, papermaking, printing and shipbuilding. Zhejiang is a favored tourist destination. It has 11 state-level scenic areas, including the West Lake, Fuchun River, Xin’an River, Thousand-islet Lake, Mount Yantang,Nanxi River, Mount Putuo, the Shengsi Islands, Mount Tiantai, Mount Mogan, Mount Xuedou,Twin-Dragon Cave and Mount Xiandu, in addition to its 35 province-level scenic spots. The Hangzhou River is a national holiday resort, and 10 other resorts, including Xianghu Lake in Xiaoshan, Oujiang River in Wenzhou and Mount Huiji in Shaoxing, are of provincial level. The Surging Qiantang Tides, a unique natural view, attracts numerous visitors from both home and abroad each year.

East China-Shanghai

Shanghai, situated at 31°14′ north latitude and 121°29′ east longitude, borders on Jiangsu and Zhejiang in the west. North of the city, the Yangtze River pours into the East China Sea. At the central point along China's coastal line, Shanghai has ready transportation facilities. It also has excellent sea and river ports and a vast hinterland. Dotted with many rivers and lakes, Shanghai is known for its rich water resources, with the water area accounting for 11% of its total territory. Most of the rivers are tributaries of the Huangpu River. Originated from the Taihu Lake, the 113 km Huangpu River winds through the downtown area of the city. The river is about 300-770 meters wide with an average width standing at 360 meters. The ice-free river is the main waterway in the Shanghai area. As a city of a long history, Shanghai has 13 historical sites under state protection, including characteristic gardens built during the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Agroup of architectures built since the 1990s have added something new to the scenic attractions of the city. The Oriental Pearl TV tower, the No. 1 skyscraper in China and the People’s Square well fit into the urban landscape and compete with the Western-style architectures built along the bunds.
